Car Rental for Cunda Island and Day Trips

Most visitors to Ayvalık do not stay in the centre. Cunda, Şeytan Sofrası, Sarımsaklı and, further north, Assos are all day trips. A rental car lets you take them one by one, at your own pace.

Cunda Island (Alibey Island)

Linked to the centre by a causeway, about 5 km away. Stone streets, the Taksiyarhis Memorial Museum and the fish restaurants along the waterfront make it the most visited spot in the area. By car you can carry on to the Patrica Monastery at the northern tip.

Şeytan Sofrası

About 10 km from the centre. A viewpoint over the Ayvalık Islands, best known for the sunset. It gets busy in the late afternoon, so your own car is the practical way to go.

Sarımsaklı and Badavut

Sarımsaklı, 8 km from the centre, is known for its long sandy beach. Badavut is the quieter alternative, ten minutes away by car.

Ayvalık Islands Nature Park

A protected area of 22 islands and islets. The coves reached by road are worth a full day.

Day-trip routes

  • Assos (Behramkale): About 90 km, 1.5 hours. The Temple of Athena and the ancient harbour.
  • Pergamon (Bergama): About 60 km. The UNESCO-listed Acropolis and Asclepion.
  • Altınoluk and Mount Ida: About 60 km. Olive groves and mountain roads.
  • Dikili and Çandarlı: About 45 km. Coastal towns and a castle.
  • Küçükkuyu and Adatepe: About 105 km. The olive oil museum and a stone village.

Which car?

For two people an economical hatchback is enough. We have light commercial cars for larger families and groups. If you prefer an automatic on the winding roads towards Mount Ida, we suggest the Kia Ceed.
